How to go KL by train

We will share our experience from JB to KL by train.

There is no direct train from JB to KL as of now.

The only way by train is from JB Sentral to Gemas then from Gemas to KL Sentral.

So we will break into two parts - Part 1: From JB Sentral to Gemas and Part 2: From Gemas to KL Sentral

You can also include your friends and family details so that you can buy tickets on behalf for them.

We bought our tickets online at https://www.ktmb.com.my from JB Sentral to Gemas and using KTMB app to buy our tickets from Gemas to KL Sentral. The app is very useful which we will explain why later.

The ticket buying process is convenient, fast and straightforward. We never encounter any issue. There are various payment methods - credit card, debit card, Touch n Go, etc.

Part 1: From JB Sentral to Gemas

From JB to Gemas is RM21 per pax.

The traveling time from JB Sentral to Gemas is about 4 hours 45 mins. We boarded the morning train at 830am and reached Gemas at 1.15pm.

From Gemas to KL Sentral is about 2 hours 30 mins. We boarded the 3.20pm train at Gemas and arrived KL Sentral at around 5.55pm. We will share more details in part 2.

Go to Gate B at JB Sentral Railway Station. Be there at least 30 minutes earlier.

We waited at around 7.45am. A staff will start to direct you to the train around 8am as the train departs at 830am sharp. Show the staff your tickets. We saw there are some printed out the physical ticket. For us, we just showed the soft copy on the app.

After showing the staff your ticket, take the escalator down

There are six coaches from A to F.

A is the first coach while F is the last coach.

Buy some food with you to the train as lunch time you will still travelling to Gemas.

The train cafe was also not open during our trip.

You can put your bag or hand carry luggage on the overhead compartment.

You must exit the platform and re-enter again for Gemas to KL Sentral.

Before exit, need to scan your ticket. We scanned (brighten up your screen) our tickets using the QR on our app. Now you see why the app is very useful.

Do take a screenshot of the ticket of the QR in case there is no or slow internet access.

You can wait at the waiting area for the train from Gemas to KL Sentral at 320pm or go out for a walk.
